The useful first question isn’t “Which treatment works best?” It’s “Why is my hair changing?”
Hair thinning can look similar on the surface while having very different causes. At our Sliema clinic, we discuss your pattern of shedding, scalp, health and goals before suggesting a non-surgical option.
Start with the cause
Why might hair be thinning?
Genetics, hormonal changes, nutritional deficiencies, stress, illness, ageing and scalp conditions can all contribute. The right next step depends on which factors apply to you.
Important: Sudden, extensive or unexplained hair loss may need a medical assessment or referral before aesthetic treatment.
The options
Four approaches, different roles
No treatment is universally “best”. These options can be considered alone or in a planned combination after assessment.
PRP
A small sample of your blood is processed to obtain a platelet-rich fraction, then administered to selected scalp areas.
Why consider it: May be considered for some forms of thinning where viable follicles remain.
Uses your own blood; a series and response are assessed individually.
Exosome-based treatment
An emerging cell-signalling approach. Products and methods differ, and research into hair applications is ongoing.
Why consider it: Discussed only when the specific product and your circumstances make it appropriate.
Not a guaranteed regrowth solution; ask about product source and regulatory status.
Hair boosters
Targeted scalp formulations may include vitamins, peptides, amino acids or other ingredients, depending on the product.
Why consider it: May support scalp condition and the appearance of existing hair.
The formulation and suitability need to be checked in consultation.
Microneedling / RF
Microneedling creates controlled channels; RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy through specialised needles.
Why consider it: One possible part of a carefully selected scalp programme.
Not appropriate for every cause of hair loss or every scalp.

Good questions to ask
The details that matter
How many PRP sessions might I need?+
It depends on the cause and extent of thinning and how you respond. Your practitioner can discuss a course and reassessment during consultation.
Can PRP and exosomes be combined?+
Potentially, but not automatically. The hair-loss pattern, scalp health, medical history and the specific exosome product all need consideration.
Can non-surgical treatments replace a hair transplant?+
No single approach fits everyone. Non-surgical options may help selected people with thinning hair, but advanced follicular loss may require a different medical assessment.
Is RF microneedling suitable for my scalp?+
That depends on your scalp condition, cause of hair loss and treatment goals. Suitability and risks should be discussed before proceeding.
